Fifty Shades of Why

New York Times #1 bestseller. Adapted from Twilight fanfiction.
This can't possibly end well.

Fifty Shades boosts sales of duct tape, cable ties and rope

“It’s just a book!” Fifty Shades fans say. “It can’t possibly have an effect on people’s behavior in the real world!”

Think again.

Sales of duct tape, cable ties and rope at a hardware store in a sleepy market town are booming - thanks to erotic novel Fifty Shades Of Grey.

“Women appear to be buying the equipment to use for sex games rather than for DIY jobs after picking up tips to spice up their love lives in the racy bestselling book.”

If Fifty Shades can cause noticeable changes in purchasing behavior of people who’ve read it, I don’t see why it couldn’t cause changes in other areas of behavior. Everything we read affects us.

Exactly. Why would there even be a “banned books” list if books had no effect on people?
