You don't need to study grammar to know how to use it. You don't need to know technical terminology to be a good writer. You just have to soak up what you read.
This is true of some people. However, if you can’t come to grasp grammar particularly well by absorbing it from things that you read, it may be useful to study it. Everyone learns differently.
